  Lies, Damned Lies &
  Statistics

   In its 2002 stage show,
   Theatre of Science presents
   Lies, Damned Lies & Statistics.

In this two-part show, Simon Singh
   and Richard Wiseman explore the
   mathematics of gambling and the
   psychology of deception.

Simon Singh looks at how chance, risk and uncertainty influence our world, from the courtroom to the doctor's surgery, from the paranormal to the casino. Indeed, our lives are dominated by the laws of chance ... an oxymoron if ever there was one.

But how can mathematics help us exploit risk? Simon shows how probability theory leads to truths that confound our intuition and he explains how it can help us to live, thrive and survive ... and win at 3-card Monty.

Richard Wiseman explores the world deception and illusion, from the quirks in how our brains process information to the way that magicians turn these quirks to their advantage.

And how good at lying are you? More importantly, how good are you at spotting a liar? Richard demonstrates a whole range of technology designed to spot anything from a tiny white porky pie to a dirty great big lie.
